McNair Scholars Program at Colorado State University
Overview:
The goal of McNair is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. for enrolled participants, by intentionally designing opportunities for research and scholarly activities, summer research internships, seminars, faculty mentorship, and other activities designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies.
Prior to applying to McNair, we must first check for eligibility into our program. There are multiple ways to meet eligibility for McNair Scholars, so we ask that you complete the eligibility form at the top of this page. Once we receive the eligibility form we will be in contact to schedule a time to meet and provide more information on McNair Scholars, including the application process.
Eligibility Requirements:
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident or in the process of obtaining permanent residency
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a degree program at CSU- Fort Collins (CSU Online students are ineligible)
- Completed a minimum of 45 credits by the time of application
- Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- First-generation and limited income OR A member of a community that is underrepresented in graduate education (Black/African American, Latinx, Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander)
- Has a strong commitment to pursue graduate education through a doctorate and a desire to conduct research. Students whose career goals include a medical (MD) or other professional degree (JD, MBA, PharmD, PsyD, Ed. D etc.) are not eligible
Benefits:
- Funded summer research internship ($2,800 stipend, plus room and board)
- Mentoring (by faculty and graduate student mentors, as well as McNair Program staff)
- Graduate school preparation workshops (including personal statements, CV and/or Resume, and Program selection, etc.)
- Individualized advice and assistance with all components of graduate school applications
- Funded travel to conferences and graduate school campus visits
- McNair graduate school portfolio which includes experience in the following: research project development with support of faculty mentor, research conference presentation, and research paper development.
