Mary Ann Lucero serves as the Executive Director of the Academic Advancement Center at Colorado State University. In her role she leads a department that is committed to supporting student success for students who have been historically minoritized. Mary Ann’s passion for serving minoritized communities within the post-secondary setting is rooted in her experiences as a first-generation, queer, Latinx scholar practitioner and doctoral student. How she enters her work is not separate from her own personal experiences. Rather she enters and engages in student success work through an integrated critical framework that seeks to examine the underpinnings of inequities, by deconstructing and reimaging student success efforts. Mary Ann earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University, followed by her master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership at University of Northern Colorado. Presently, Mary Ann is working towards a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership at CSU. Her research interest includes post-secondary organizations practice, and implementation of student success policies, and racialized administrative burdens.
