The McNair Scholars Program at Colorado State University helps prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through research, mentorship, and academic support. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the program empowers first-generation, income-eligible, and underrepresented students to pursue graduate education and academic careers.
Established in 1986 in honor of scientist and astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair, the program reflects his legacy of excellence and opportunity. McNair Scholars gain access to a funded summer research internship, faculty and graduate student mentorship, graduate school preparation workshops, and funded travel for conferences and campus visits. Participants also build a graduate school portfolio through research projects, presentations, and publications. The program’s mission is to increase the number of students from underrepresented backgrounds who successfully pursue and complete doctoral degrees.
