About Carolina Bañuelos, PhD

Carolina Bañuelos, PhD

Carolina (caro) credits much of her higher education involvement and success to TRIO programs. The support she received from TRIO program staff, starting even before her bachelor’s degree and continuing well beyond it, further encouraged her to pursue a terminal degree.

A big part of Caro’s approach in higher education is rooted in consistency and connection. She believes small, steady interactions can make a huge difference in retention and well-being. Her work is also shaped by her experience with social network analysis and research on first-generation student support networks, so she’s always thinking about who students are connected to, not just what they’re doing. She’s a strong advocate for community-building and knows how valuable it is to have people in your corner during challenging academic journeys.

Outside of work, Caro pretends to be a football and Star Wars fan for her spouse, is part of a Chulas & Chapters book club, and serves on her HOA board. She loves The Moth podcast, strength training, and traveling to eat all the things. Her nieces and nephews keep her busy with Disney trips and little league sports, and she’ll never turn down a coffee date.
