CSU McNair Scholars Recruitment is year-round with acceptances on a first-come first-served rolling basis. Learn more about our program here before applying!

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be enrolled at the Fort Collins campus (CSU Online students are not eligible)

And meet one or more of the following:

  • Be a first-generation college student and demonstrate financial need (as defined by the U.S. Department of Education)
  • Be a member of a group underrepresented in graduate education, including:
      • Black/African American
      • Hispanic/Latino
      • American Indian or Alaskan Native
      • Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander

Application Process

Complete the Interest Form

Filling out the Interest Form is the first step toward joining the CSU McNair Scholars community. This short form helps our team learn more about your academic goals, interests, and motivation for pursuing graduate education.

Meet with a Staff Member

  • Schedule a 30-minute virtual meeting on Microsoft Teams

During this meeting, you will:

  • Discuss your goals and interests
  • Learn about the program overview and requirements
  • Confirm your eligibility
  • Ask any questions you may have

Submit Your Application

  • Once confirmed eligible, you’ll receive an application link directly from a CSU McNair Scholars Program staff member.

Your application must include:

  • Reference letter
  • Unofficial transcript(s)
  • CV or résumé
  • Personal statement

Interview

  • Participate in a 1-hour virtual interview on Microsoft Teams
  • You’ll receive ten questions in advance to help you prepare and reflect on program fit
  • Includes time for Q&A
